The Building

In 1936 when the Methodist congregation moved from the old Chapel (now ‘Secret Seaview’) in the lower part of the village, they converted a manor house into their place of worship. This left much of the building empty and in 1987 work commenced to convert the upper rooms into holiday flats. Upgrading has continued and these days they provide 4 comfortable flats with modern kitchens and bathrooms, tv, wi-fi and free parking.

Robin Hood’s Bay

Surrounded by moorland and fields on three sides and the sea on the other. Over the centuries ‘Bay’ has seen many a shipwreck in the wild seas and smugglers hurrying between houses at the dead of night. It is probably not surprising then that John Wesley felt the need to visit and preach here no less than 11 times.

There are many walks and outstanding views to enjoy, and with much of the coastline now managed and owned by the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of England.

‘Bay’ as it is known locally, is just 5 miles from Whitby and 16 miles from Scarborough, and so there is always something to do in the area, whether visiting the annual ‘Folk’ and ‘Victorian’ weekends in Bay or the many regular weekends specialising in ‘Gospel Music’, ‘Goth’, ‘Regatta’, ’60s’, ‘Wartime’, Sci-fi’, and many others in Whitby throughout the year. Or maybe you will reach Bay and dip your feet in the sea having bravely trodden the 190 mile ‘Wainwrights’ coast to coast walk from st. Bees.

Accommodation Facilities

Each flat is well equipped; electric heating, cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, television and Wi-Fi. Bed linen (duvets, sheets, pillows) are provided for the main beds and settees, but not ‘Z’ beds.  Guests are asked to bring their own towels and tea towels.

All of the flats contain twin beds, Bethany and Emmaus also contain a sofa in the living room which converts to a double bed. An additional one or two people can be accommodated in each flat by the use of ‘Z’ beds. These are narrow singles and are therefore, more suitable for children.

Solar Panels

We are pleased to have been awarded a grant for the installation of solar panels which have been fitted to the side facing roof slopes so as not to change the main view from the front. To view the current output from each side of the Church please follow this link : Solar Energy

The Church

The Methodist chapel serves the local community and has regular services.

• Sunday Worship at 10:30am.
• There is also a Communion Service at 10:00 each Thursday.
• ‘Songs of Praise’ services are held regularly during Summer months
• Coffee mornings are held each Thursday (following the communion service) from 10-12 noon.

All are welcome to join in any of these.

note: although we are delighted when people staying in our holiday flats partake in any of our services and events, we understand that not everyone wants to come to our Church when they are holiday. We do not mind and won’t be offended if you decide to worship elsewhere or choose to explore the surrounding beautiful countryside and coast.
